Is Microsoft Docs X-Ray an official Microsoft site?
No. Microsoft Docs X-Ray is an independent community project. It links back to Microsoft Learn and the public GitHub source for every comparison.
Does it support every Microsoft Learn page?
Not yet. The supported list focuses on product areas with reliable public URL-to-repository mappings. Unsupported pages show a clear explanation instead of guessing.
What revisions are compared?
By default, Docs X-Ray compares the latest two Git commits that affected the mapped Markdown file. Use the timeline to compare any earlier version with today, or open the advanced picker to compare any two versions.
Do I need a GitHub token?
Usually not. GitHub allows up to 60 unauthenticated REST API requests per hour from an originating IP address. Each Docs X-Ray comparison uses several requests to find the commits and load both revisions, so a shared office, school, or VPN connection can use that allowance sooner than expected.
Add an optional fine-grained personal access token to raise your authenticated allowance to 5,000 requests per hour. Public documentation needs no repository permissions. The token stays in this browser and is sent only to api.github.com; Docs X-Ray suggests it only when GitHub reports that the anonymous limit is exhausted. Read GitHub’s rate-limit documentation ↗
